I came across this nice utility for monitoring debug output called DebugView (forgive me if I'm late to the party).

Last week I was running some of the AD RMS sample code and getting an error. I used DebugView to get more details about it. To use the tool, you open it and run your code - it will then capture the debug output. The download page has helpful instructions.
