Found A Good Photo Sharing Site

I asked a couple of days ago if anyone had a recommendation for a good photo sharing site that offered lots of storage, multiple-sized images, keywords, privacy and online ordering, and I'd like to thank the many of you who replied either by posting comments to the blog or by mailing me directly.

Several people pointed out smugmug, which I'd never heard of before. I tried it out and promptly subscribed: I was impressed by the comprehensiveness of the features, as well as the level and quailty of participation from the site operators in community forums. This site embodies the Cluetrain manifesto well - they don't have a large "marketing" budget in the traditional sense, but they spread their word through happy customers who want to share their positive experiences with others. By focusing less on how they can extract every possible dime from their customer base and more on creating a good experience, companies like this actually wind up achieving their original objective by growing their customer base far more quickly. From an economics perspective, this approach is more likely to work out for smaller, less known companies than larger, more mature institutions, but it's still attractive.

Of course, Microsoft Max is going to be another great way to share photos, just as soon as folk start to sign up. Have you tried that yet?
