Microsoft UK Website Revamped

You might have noticed that the Microsoft UK site has had a bit of a make-over. The intentions behind this reworking are all good: to take full advantage of ASP.NET and to provide personalised information relevant to the profile you choose (for example, "technical" visitors will get information on upcoming technical events and webcasts).

One of the biggest challenges for any multi-national company is to integrate local and global content together. Looking around the web, you can see that some companies treat each country as if they were a completely different organisation, whereas others either integrate everything together or create a global site along with individual country mini-sites with local information. I suspect there's no single right answer, otherwise everyone would have adopted the same solution. As a developer, I'd ideally like to see the main MSDN site incorporate a sidebar or something that highlighted local events and offers, but I've been pushing fruitlessly at that door since I joined the company! There's a few projects in the works that may achieve something in this area, but I'm not holding my breath... (For now, the local developer information is at the MSDN UK site.)

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear your feedback on the new UK site, both positive and negative, and will pass any useful suggestions on to the site editors.

  1. Do you guys ever intend to publish anything on the MNP framework – recently been using it for a project (for MS UK actually) it really is a very interesting system and has some features which would be useful on lots of places…

Scott, sure! Have a look at the following URL for starters:

  3. Wow, cool good article.

When I went to the other day, I thought that I’d mistyped the URL when it launched me straight into updating my profile info.

    Perhaps a warning first?

Great to see user groups on the front page, but when I click on the link to the London .NET user group I get taken to a search page with a not found message. We are still at: Is this a problem at my end or yours?

It looks good, just one thing: The advert on the front page seems a bit big. On a 1024*768 monitor it consumes about 20% of the screen size!

    Hi there,

Would be great if you got rid of the distracting animations.
