Well, it helps to have a good underpinning of XML.   You don't need to be an XML guru to get started in InfoPath, but sooner or later you'll be dragged kicking and screaming into the world of schemas, XSLT's, XPath statements and the like.    This link to training below won't get you all the way there, but it will tell you enough of XML to help you guage whether you want to go any further or not.
