Font-Face isn’t working on IE9 inside of Windows Phone 7.

Sadly in Windows phone 7, although the font-face tag is supported it’s not possible to link to external fonts. This means that you can’t get WOFF fonts that are not on the phone by default working in IE9 for Windows Phone. There are 16 differences between IE9 and IE9 for WP7 this being one of them. If you want to check out the other differences I wrote this blog post for Ubelly a few weeks ago.

How exactly is the font-face tag supported when you are not able to link to an external font file? I mean, without that kind of support, isn't the tag completely useless then?

  2. Ruben Reyes says:

I guess "support" means "wont crash" in this world

  3. Rikki Tooley says:

I'm presuming you still have access to all the "traditional" web fonts – Times, Arial, Verdana, etc

Yes… and a few other ones that are on the phone. You can see all the supported fonts here: msdn.microsoft.com/…/ff806365%28v=VS.95%29.aspx

"it’s not possible to link to external fonts"… does it mean we can embed fonts with base64-encoded data URIs ?

  6. Javier says:

@Cyrille tried on an emulator, base64 doesn't work either :-(

this Saddens me. Is it still the case in 2013?

  8. Graeme says:

Font-face is fully supported in Windows Phone 8 so all fixed in that regard.
