Demand for software developers continues as infrastructure loses more ground, according to latest Gooroo data

Melbourne (Australia) 10 September 2015 – Software developers are on a roll with continued high demand in August while infrastructure continues on a downward trajectory, according to the latest data from tech job marketplace experts Gooroo

Following the same pattern as the previous two months, Australia’s tech jobs continue to see higher demand and salaries for professionals with skills in software development, mobile technologies and database related skills.

“This really isn’t a trend that is expected to stop anytime soon,” says Greg Muller CEO and Founder of Gooroo. “Even though salaries across the board are lower for tech professionals this year compared to last, software developers have seen an increase in salary of 4% to an average of $108,083 AUD in the past month alone.”

More than 60% of advertised tech jobs in August required software development skills and more than a quarter asked for database related skills, while infrastructure skills continue to decline.

“Infrastructure roles saw a slight comeback in August, but only by as little as 1%. Overall there is still a marked decrease in these roles and there has been quite consistently since March 2014,” said Mr Muller.

While Australia continues to see a lower average salary for tech professionals in 2015 compared to last year, the US is sitting 8.9% up compared to the same time in 2014.

Says Mr Muller, “Australia can still expect to see some further increases in average salaries this year, while the US appears to have peaked in May at $97,205 USD, and have fallen since to around $87,492 USD.”
