Minecraft Education Edition: World of Chemistry

Are you looking for a way to inspire your Students in Chemistry? Look no further than Minecraft Education Edition. The latest update has brought us a new Chemistry resource pack and immersive world: The World of Chemistry. This is a wonderful world that has brought us a whole range of new tools to use within Minecraft to inspire, engage and immerse our students in Chemistry. From exploring elements, creating compounds and carrying out investigations, the possibilities are endless…

The Immersive World

The world itself is beautifully crafted. When you first open the world you spawn in a courtyard with a pathway which leads you through a series of stations with key learning points for the new resources. Beyond this space there is much to explore with teleporters to quickly move you from one space to another. Looking around you will find a product testing area, classroom, a creature hall, a space to build your own lab and even a periodic table. It is clearly a well thought out world which has been lovingly built to provide a meaningful space for our students to learn in.

The New Resources

As part of the Chemistry resource pack you now have 4 new tables which allow us to explore the science around us. These are:
Element Constructor – This allows students to create elements by choosing the number of protons, neutrons and electrons. Students can also choose to drop in an element and discover its subatomic properties.

Compound Creator – Students can combine different elements to create over thirty different compounds including ammonia, calcium chloride and latex.

Lab Table – This is a space for students to conduct their own experiments by combining different elements and compounds to try to create viable products.

Material reducer – When students want to discover what different blocks are constructed of they can place them into the material reducer. It will display for them the component elements of the given block.

You can find out more about these in the Lab Journal which can be downloaded from education.minecraft.net

Chemistry Lessons

Alongside this fantastic update, there are a range of different lesson plans available on education.minecraft.net/chemistry for teachers to download and adapt for their own lessons. These range from exploring the world around us to chemical reactions to atomic structures and isotopes. These are a great place to start when looking for incorporating Chemistry into your lessons.

With this new update, teachers can now engage their students in Chemistry in a whole new way. There is only one place to start and that is to get stuck in and have a go.
