The Bamboo Team has released a tool at the link below that allows you to install Windows SharePoint Services v 3.0 Service Pack 1 on Vista x64/x86 SP1. I have heard that this is much faster than running on your VPC and I am going to give it a try. I really like having a VPC running, however, I also like having everything running (hint, I have to stop Outlook to start my VPC, do to some memory consumption stuff going on somewhere).

  • GREAT – WSS on your primary development machine that goes around with you.
  • GREAT – Not having to spawn a virtual machine for testing, demos, quick one offs
  • GREAT – PowerShell, Visual Studio, etc on your primary machine
  • NOT SO GREAT – not currently supported implementation of WSS
  • NOT SO GREAT – few limitations, need to be careful
