As a Designer and digital hunter and gatherer I always look for inspiring images on the web. One of my favorite repositories for creative images and designs is the website FFFFound.com where people can share and tag images they found on the web. In cooperation with WPCentral the developer RogueCode designed a magnificent app for the Windows Phone which brings the functionality of the website right to your phone. You can browse the image gallery, find related pics and of course store, share and rate the pics.
But not only the functionality makes it really useful, also its design is beautiful and makes browsing really fun. The design works hand in hand with the stylish Metro Theme of the Windows Phone and makes a brilliant use of its philosophy “maximized to the minimum”.
It’s all about the image. If you pin the app to your start screen it automatically shows the actual pics posted on FFFFound. After starting the app you get directly offered a clean and updates list of all actual images posted on FFFFound. By tapping an image a small menu in Metro Design appears and offers you the following four options: Full Screen, Save, Share, and Tag as Favourite. If you save the image it gets directly stored on your phone, where you can use it as wallpaper, upload it to your Skydrive or make it available for other applications. If you want to share it you can directly do it via SMS, e-mail or per Tweet out of the app.
Per image the app offers three related pics that you can explore just by sliding the original image to the side. This is really a wonderful solution for displaying related images and for me the core functionality of FFFFound.com: finding related pictures to the one you like. Hunting and gathering is a lot of fun this way. You start with one pic you like and start browsing through its related images, tap and tap and tap, making your way from pic to pic to pic to pic to pic … save … to pic to pic to pic to pic … tweet … to pic to pic … save … to pic to pic to pic … – but be careful! I found myself almost lost in time and space by tapping through this endless land of plenty pictures.
This app is really cool and for me one of the best designed apps as a translation from a website that I have seen so far. This app is a must have if you are interested in design, art and creative images . It`s available on the Marketplace and costs only 1,29 CHF.
