Retro brilliance from ALT/1977: WE ARE NOT TIME TRAVELERS on the Behance Network. Is this what today’s tech would have looked like back in 1977? Probably.

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is the tech bubble I/we live in. Packing my house and moving to the US gave me time to reflect on all of the technology I have accumulated during 12+ years at Microsoft. It reminded me how quickly things change with phones and laptops that were state of the are 3, 5, and 10 years ago now literally being museum items. I actually packed a lot of stuff away for just that purpose – some tech nostalgia 20 years in the future including a few phones, my original laptop from when I joined Microsoft (ooops, was I supposed to give that back??) and even a Mac classic.

It was a salutary reminder that I don’t always need to be on the cusp of technology as it’s something that will always be there. There will always be something new, vying for my attention and and trying to convince me that nirvana has been reached.

Can I resist having the latest tech? Not always but I’m definitely getting better at working out what I need vs. want. It’s an interesting game to play with yourself as your browse Techmeme and Engadget each day.

Okay…now when is Windows Phone 7 coming out? :)
