Microsoft Paint you have served us well but step aside, Gustav is in the house. Another video from Microsoft’s TechFest, shot by TechCrunch
Project Gustav is a realistic painting-system prototype that enables artists to become immersed in the digital painting experience. It achieves interactivity and realism by leveraging the computing power of modern GPUs, taking full advantage of multitouch and tablet input technology and our novel natural media-modeling and brush-simulation algorithms. Project Gustav is a great example of how Microsoft's research efforts are leading to exciting new technologies to support creativity.
looks like a ripoff of artrage
Looks interesting. But as a digital artist myself I’m not sure if I’ll want to invest in it. It looks like an awesome simulation of traditional media, but that’s precisely the point. I paint digitally because I like the effects and the feel of the digital media. If I want to paint traditionally then the main joy in that for me comes from the tangibility of the media, which I only get from getting my hands smothered in paints, the harder to get off the better!
But this is really just a personal thing. I reckon there’ll be a lot of interest in this once people hear about it. Who knows, I may even get it myself!
The demo of the Project Gustav is very amazing.
I know that the first application that kids use on computers is the MS Paint.
After Gustav, we won’t be able to take kids away from computers 🙂
