Office 2010 brings Office to the browser

See What's New in Microsoft Web Applications 2010

Okay so this is hardly news now as it was all over Techmeme and the web in general this morning – Office 2010 Tech Preview got announced at the Worldwide Partner Conference. For my world of Software plus Services the big news was Office Web Applications. Yep, Office is finally coming to the web and having played with it myself I think you’ll be impressed.

Ina Fried has a good interview with Stephen Elop where he discusses Office 2010 and specifically comments on Office Web Apps

"We think less about the Web applications as standalone word processor things, and far more about it as a complement to the trio of the phone, the PC, and the browser environment. We think about the best experience being the sum of those things working well together."

Meantime, my ex-Microsoft pal Robert Scoble emailed me to let me know he has a bunch of videos regarding the topic he’s been excited about for the last week. He said

“I will upgrade just for the new Outlook features. Watch that video to see why. Also the new Web features might get me back from Google Docs”

Exciting times and rest assured Microsoft isn’t resting on our laurels – Office is coming to the web and I can’t wait to show it at some upcoming speaking gigs I have.
