Exchange 14 Has 3.5m Users Already

Exchange 14 (or E14) broke cover this week with a post on the Exchange Team blog. As KC mentioned, this version of Exchange is being built from the ground up to be scalable in multi tenant hosting environments which explains why we’re well in to a testing phase now that is know as Exchange Labs. I actually have my own account and domain on Exchange Labs and it’s impressive stuff but the Live@Edu program also uses Exchange Labs and counts over 3.5 million users already. Not a bad “dogfooding” effort as we normally do this kind of pre-release testing inside the 4 walls of Microsoft and can never get that scale.

Exchange is a big part of our Software plus Services effort and can be seen in action already with Exchange Online (though that’s running on E12 and the product team is obviously superstitious as they skipped 13!).

There’s a good demo in there of Live@Edu with stuff like auto conversion of a Word doc to HTML.
