"End of Support" announcement for SQL Server Migration Assistant v4.2 family of products (support ends on July 15th, 2012)

Microsoft would like to inform customers that support for SSMA v4.2 family of products (including SSMA Extension Packs) is going to end on July 15th 2012. Following are the products in SSMA v4.2 family of products for which this “End of Support” notice is applicable:

  1. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2005 for Access v4.2
  2. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2008 for Access v4.2
  3. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2005 for MySQL v1.0
  4. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2008 for MySQL v1.0
  5. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2005 for Oracle v4.2
  6. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2008 for Oracle v4.2
  7. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2005 for Sybase ASE v4.2
  8. SQL Server Migration Assistant 2008 for Sybase ASE v4.2

The download links for these products will be removed on August 15th, 2011 even though we continue to support these product versions through July 15th 2012. 

What does “End of Support” mean for SSMA v4.2?

At the end of the support phase for SSMA v4.2 product family, customers will not have access to the following:

  • SSMA v4.2 products download pages
  • Free or paid assisted support options
  • New security updates or non-security hotfixes
  • Updates to online content (Knowledge Base articles, etc.), the existing content will be available at least for the next 12 months from the date of this announcement

Guidance for customers

Microsoft advises customers to migrate to the latest supported SSMA product release and/or Service Pack which can be obtained from the Microsoft SQL Server website. There is no upgrade path from previous version of SSMA to the latest, hence customers need to:

  1. Uninstall SSMA v4.2 product
  2. Install the latest version of SSMA product  (latest download links are available from SSMA team blog)
