SQL Server Data Tools RTM update for July 2015

The SQL Server Data Tools team is pleased to announce an update for SSDT RTM is now available. Visual Studio 2015 was released to manufacturing (RTM) on July 20 and this update fully supports Visual Studio 2015 along with 2013 and 2012. The SSDT RTM update for July 2015 includes fixes for customer-reported issues from the previous RTM update for May 2015.

Important: read before download and install SSDT RTM update for July 2015

Any users who have not installed a Preview version of SSDT please skip this section – download and install this update as normal. If you have installed the SSDT June 2015 Preview you should consider the following before installing:

  • This update will replace SSDT June 2015 Preview for Visual Studio 2013 with this RTM version. Preview feature support for SQL Server 2016 CTP2.1  and the latest Azure SQL DB Preview features will be removed. If you want to keep trying-out SQL Server 2016 CTP 2.1 and the latest Azure SQL Database preview features, skip this RTM update.
  • If you already installed this update but want to reinstall the SSDT June 2015 preview, see Release Notes below.
Any users who are not using Visual Studio 2013 and Visual Studio 2015 side by side on the same machine please skip this section. If you are using multiple versions of Visual Studio please follow the following:
  • Install SSDT July 2015 RTM update for Visual Studio 2013 first then install July 2015 RTM update for Visual Studio 2015.
  • SSDT team is currently investigating this issue to resolve.
  • If you have already installed July 2015 RTM update for Visual Studio 2015 and getting a setup error from Visual Studio 2013 SSDT update setup, please see Release Notes below to resolve it.

Download SSDT July 2015 RTM

  • In Visual Studio 2015 the update will also be made available in the Extensions and Updates dialog within the next week. The version number for the VS2015 update is 14.0.50717.0.
  • In Visual Studio 2013 the update will also be made available in the Extensions and Updates dialog within the next week. The version number for the VS2013 update is 12.0.50717.0.
  • In Visual Studio 2012 the update will also available using the SQL -> Check For Updates menu option later today. The version number for the VS2012 update is 11.0.50717.0.

Bug fixes to customer-reported issues

This release includes fixes for the following issues:

  • DDL was generated incorrectly for SQL CLR objects with a Facet Scale attribute.
  • Schema compare showed alter role differences as not supported for update.

  • Fixes for display issues on high DPI machines.

  • Users lacking full permissions were unable to see a table in SQL Server Object Explorer.

  • Code Analysis errors did not result in a failed build.

Release Notes

  • For Portuguese installations of SSDT the version numbers for this release are 11.0.50720.0 (VS2012), 12.0.50720.0 (VS2013), and 14.0.50720.0 (VS2015), respectively. This is different from the version number shown in the Extensions and Updates dialog in Visual Studio. 
  • If  you want to try out SSDT June 2015 Preview for SQL Server 2016 CTP 2.1 or Azure SQL Database preview features after installing this update, follow the steps below.
    • Go to Control Panel >> Uninstall or change a program
    • Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools 2013 – the version number is 12.0.50717.0
    • Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools – enu (12.0.50717.0) – the version number is 12.0.50717.0
    • Download and install SSDT June 2015 Preview.
  • If you have installed SSDT RTM update for July 2015 on Visual Studio 2015 and experiencing a setup issue for updating SSDT on Visual Studio 2013 side by side, follow the steps below.
    • Go to Control Panel >> Uninstall or change a program
    • Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools 2015 – the version number is 12.0.50717.0
    • Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools – enu (14.0.5017.0) – the version number is 14.0.59717.0
    • Update SSDT on Visual Studio 2013 first.
    • Update SSDT on Visual Studio 2015 after Visual Studio 2013.
