I have SQL Server Express installed and I want to upgrade to Service Pack 1

The easiest way to upgrade to Service Pack 1 is to search for the update through Microsoft Update.  The service pack 1 update will not be NOT be automatically installed to your system.

If getting the update from Microsoft Update is not an option you must obtain the update from the download center from here.

Sorry, i posted this in other thread but i didn’t see any answer.

Hy. I have three alternatives: mssql express 2008, postgresql and mysql.

I do want to use mssql express 2008 for a web hosting enviroment as a first choice.

The question is: i have the legal rights to use microsoft sql server 2008 express edition in a hosting enviroment?

I have seen lots of web hosting companies using sql server 2008 express.

    It is legal?

    Thank you,

MS licensing permits the use of SQL Server Express in dedicated hosting scenarios; MS licensing prohibits the use of SQL Server Express in shared hosting scenarios.  (In a dedicated, or single tenant, hosting environment, each customer is allocated servers for their own exclusive use.  In a shared, or multi-tenant, hosting environment, customers are allocated space and resources on servers that are shared with other customers.)

Note also, the size restrictions on Express (4 GB database size; 1 GB memory) make it an unrealistic choice for shared hosting, regardless of the licensing terms.

(Here’s a previous link on the topic, http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2008/02/22/sql-server-express-and-hosting.aspx.  This post doesn’t reference an increasingly popular and cost-effective choice for hosting Web sites and application – Web edition.  You can learn more here: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/web.aspx )

Finally, I will be posting a related whitepaper shortly on hosting and SQL Server.  I will note here when that link is live.

I dont understant very clearly. To be ok do I need to create an server instance for each website in a shared hosting enviroment?

Since there are free and competitive database systems on market I think I will reconsider and choose another one. Despite the limitations of express edition you cannot use it free like mysql or postgresql. Here microsoft will definitely loose market.

    Thank you,
