Update on SQL 2000 Service Pack 4

If you are running SQL Server 2000 SP4 (build 8.00.2039), you might be interested in this blog.

  • Since the launch of SP4 (build 8.00.2039), several hotfixes have been released publicly. At the time of writing this blog, the latest hotfix build available for public download was 8.00.2187.
  • Please refer to KB 894905 for a detailed list of all post SP4 public hotfix builds and their associated fixes.
  • You can download these hotfixes by visiting the KB 894905.

Any SQL Server 2000 SP3 hotfix that was included in build 8.00.0996 or in an earlier build is included in SQL Server 2000 SP4. By default, any SQL Server 2000 SP3 hotfix that was included in build 8.00.1000 or in a later build is not included in SQL Server 2000 SP4.

As a result, if you are running SP3 build 8.00.1000 or above, and you move to SP4 (build 8.00.2039), these hotfixes will not be installed by default.

In such a case, we recommend that you also consider the SP4 cumulative hotfix package 2187. This cumulative hotfix package contains the SQL Server 2000 SP3 hotfixes that roughly correspond to build 8.00.1009 through build 8.00.1031, inclusive.

NOTE

We strongly recommend that you test any service pack or hotfix builds on your test server before putting them on your production server.
