FIX: SSMS : Can no longer create or edit job steps – Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {AA40D1D6-CAEF-4A56-B9BB-D0D3DC976BA2} from the IClassFactory failed

Our customers reported issue while launching Job step dialog on SQL 2008 R2 's Management Studio. Here is the related connection issue

Issue: When attempting to add a step to a SQL Server Job,if you see this issue "Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {AA40D1D6-CAEF-4A56-B9BB-D0D3DC976BA2} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: c001f011. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS)",

    One of our instance runs SQL Ent 2008 SP3 and still have this error what else is there?

  2. Can you check if your SSMS version is SQL Server 2008 SP3? Have you applied SQL 2008 SP3 on your machine running SSMS?

    SQL Server 2008 SP3…/details.aspx is installed properly.

    Is there any alternate way to fix it.

  6. Can you please check if you see this issue in SQL 2014. You can provision a SQL Server 2014 Virtual machine in Azure –…/virtual-machines-provision-sql-server

    Is it that i need to upgrade SSMS

    Please update SQL Server Management Studio with the installers found on the SQL  Server 2008 R2 SP1 download page linked above: SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe or SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe (depending on your architecture).

    I ve found that implementing patch bellow also works.


    Its installed on workstation which is using SSMS.
