Imagine Cup SA 2010 Local finals kick off today – 6th of December 2010! Students from around the country will be showcasing their projects and solutions that they have been working on for the past few months.
The competition has been pleasantly competitive over the years. I have no doubt that this year will be even better. Judges will have a difficult time deciding who will be going to represent South Africa in New York Next next July at the worldwide finals!
Our students will be competing in 3 categories: Software Design (20 Teams), Game Design & Development (4 teams) and Development (14 Teams).
Tomorrow (the 7th of December), all the students’ mentors and lecturers arrive for the evening’s awards and gala dinner. We will also be hosting a Cloud Computing Workshop for faculty members, delivered by MVP Rudi Grobler. Rudi is an employee of BB&D – this year’s platinum sponsor of the Imagine Cup SA local finals.
I’m delighted that CSIR/Meraka is also supporting our local student competition this year, and I’m really looking forward to the next two days’ proceedings! The last three years of my involvement have been a fantastic experience.
It’s always exciting to look at the solutions the students develop. I believe, through the Imagine Cup, our students can really contribute to South Africa’s local software economy – by empowering themselves with the vision and competition to see their ideas become business and software realities in the future.
