DreamSpark – an inspirational example

A few weeks ago we announced the DreamSpark program which allows students free access to many Microsoft developer technologies.  I wanted to share with you something related to this program that I was impressed with this week.

A young developer, Nathan, contacted me to share a project that he was able to create with the software he downloaded.

Nathan recently downloaded XNA Game Studio Express and created his first game!  He found some code snippets on CodePlex and pulled together a fun little game incorporating his love of games with a little bit of humor over his student debt that he hopes to pay off with a career in software development.

I wish Nathan good luck with XNA studio and our other development tools as well as all the other students out there who have taken advantage of this program.

Namaste!

    Hi Soma,

I can send you a sample of a foxpro program I wrote for a customer and the same program written in Visual Studio, .NET and SQL Server and you can see for yourself the extra code and bloat associated with your latest and greatest development tools.

    Regards,

    Mark

Mark, can you send me that also? Oh, and don’t forget the attach the scalability-plans and your report on your application’s support on modern operating systems.

    Thanks,

    Pete

Wow. "MARK GORDON"s blog is quite interesting too.

  5. Pete says:

Yeah, that blog has like one whole half point about nothing going on there. Seriously, I think it’s embarrassing. A grown man… probably not… anyway, with no real points, just some ranting about his flavor.

Ok, he likes tomato-sauce, I like sugar-reduced ketchup, who cares.

Totally pointless to anyone other than the one writing his flame-biting diary. "Dear mom, today I hated on some .NET and Java gave me that really nice look and I had to change underwear afterwards…"

    Mark,

As a company if MS chooses not to develop a product its their choice – albeit may not be a favorable one. They have instead provided a host of next generation languages with the openness to support anything you can build on the CLR. Ruby and F# are great examples of this.

You dont understand whats involved, the 8th and 10th grade schooling in America cant even compete with the same level kids in Europe and Asia. Its sad that rather than correcting the education system you choose to make ethnic and racial slurs and blame others for your problems.

Had IBM dominated you would never be able to afford a computer and many tools would be very expensive. The same goes for Mac.

As a result of Microsofts innovation and dedication they have created so so many jobs. Its not a perfect world – but you should be the last one complaining.
