Imagine Cup 2008

Imagine Cup 2007 is done. Thanks to the city of Seoul for hosting us and for all the students around the world who participated in the Imagine Cup this year to make it a glorious student programming competition.

Earlier today, I got a chance to meet with some of the teams who came to the finals of the Software Design category. Two things impressed me a great deal – a) the passion and the confidence that the students demonstrated in terms of solving problems that have a broad impact on people around the world and b) the knowledge and deep understanding of the latest and greatest technologies and the appropriate use of those in the software that these students built.

The top 3 winning teams in the Software Design category are: #1 – Thailand, #2 – Korea and #3 – Jamaica. Congratulations to these teams for their outstanding performance and being the worldwide winners.

Every year (for the last 4 years) that I have attended Imagine Cup, I always ask myself – is this the year where we have seen the best in Imagine Cup and every subsequent year has been better than the previous year. Along those lines, I am eagerly looking forward to the Imagine Cup 2008 Finals. It is going to be in Paris next July and the theme for the 2008 Imagine Cup is “Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment”.

Here is a quick write-up I posted earlier tonight about my thoughts from Imagine Cup 2007.

Vive la technologie.

Namaste!
