Your questions about VS 2005 RC

When I posted my blog about us reaching the Visual Studio 2005 RC milestone, I got a number of questions from people on a variety of different issues.  Chris Dias, who runs the project management for Visual Studio 2005, recently posted a blog summarizing answers for all the questions.  If you had a question about the release candidate for VS 2005, I encourage you to go read his blog.

    Hi Allan,

We have planned for doing the launch for VS 2005 on November 7th, by when the product will be available commercially.

I have the RC but am hesitant to install because I am afraid that I will have to go through the process of downloading and installing the release version and uninstalling the RC. My question is that if I install the RC would I simply upgrade to the RTM or uninstall the RC and install the RTM?

  4. Mike P. says:

What happens to my installed version of VS 2005 Beta (C++) when the final version is released for sale?

If I can’t afford to purchase it right away, will the BETA/RC version continue to function, or will I be SOL?

  5. Somasegar says:

If you install the RC and want to get onto RTM bits, you will have to uninstall RC and install RC and install the RTM version.

The Beta2 and RC versions of Visual Studio 2005 have an expiry date – May 1, 2006. Till then you are ok. After which, you will have to have the RTM version.
