Trip Report – New Mobile Developer’s User Group

I attended the first meeting of a new mobile developer’s user group in Orange County last night.  The meeting was hosted in Irvine by TelePages (by Tryda a mobile development company).

There were around 20 developers in attendance.  All of the attendees had multiple years of production experience developing, deploying and/or marketing mobile applications. Interestingly, more than half of the developers at this user group drove up to the OC from San Diego.

After introductions, there was a discussion around ‘App or WAP?’.  This started with a round-table talk about the reality of developing applications for the various platforms (Android, iPhone, Palm, WindowsPhone, etc…).  It was really interesting to hear detail about what has been working for developers on the different platforms in terms of development tools, strategies and techniques.

Windows Phone 7

There was quite a bit of curiosity and interest around the expected announcements for WindowsPhone7 at MIX2010 next week.  This is a great new group for mobile phone developers who live in the OC (or can commute here).  The best way to find out when the next meeting is would be to contact Tryda as they are the hosting group.  I do believe the intent is to have monthly meetings.  Either Daniel Egan or I will be presenting there on Windows Phone 7 in the near future.
