Silverlight Spikes AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Matches Live to Your Computer

Just when we thought spending summer days in the sand were behind us (at least here in Redmond), the AVP recently announced that they will use Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming to bring beach volleyball fans around the world live, SD and HD streaming video of pro beach volleyball matches. Using a new, interactive online player, developed by the creative minds at AVP and iStreamPlanet, pro beach volleyball matches will be streamed live from the sands of premier AVP venues on avpTV and their partner Web sites.

Fans got their first taste of the Silverlight AVP HD Video Player in mid-July when Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming powered the AVP’s prestigious Crocs Slam Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open live from Manhattan Beach, CA. To get a feel for how Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming make the action come alive, check out the preliminary round, semifinal and final matches, available for on-demand viewing on avpTV.

Further heating up the season, the AVP broadcasted the return of Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor to professional beach volleyball after a year break due to injury. May-Treanor competed with partner Kerri Walsh in the AVP Crocs World Challenge: US vs. Brazil presented by Sanderson Ford, Sept. 25-27 in Glendale, AZ. Fans were able to watch live and in HD as Treanor and Walsh faced off against their long-time competitor Brazil in a battle for supremacy on the beach. Be sure to check out the action for yourself, now available on-demand on avpTV.
