Demo Time: Developing and Managing SharePoint Solutions with Microsoft Visual Studio

A couple of months ago, we posted a few articles introducing some of the new features of the SharePoint Developer Tools in Visual Studio 2012. Hopefully, you have had a chance to use these new features and have found them useful. If you haven’t had a chance to use the new tools, or you’re new to SharePoint development and possibly confused by some of what we talked about in those posts, here is another way you can get up to speed.

At TechEd 2012, which was held last week in Orlando, Jay Schmelzer delivered an interesting session about developing and managing SharePoint solutions with Microsoft Visual Studio. Jay is a Director of Program Management on the Visual Studio team at Microsoft that is responsible for the Visual Studio design-time tools and runtime components that are used to build line-of-business applications, including the SharePoint Developer Tools. In his demo-heavy session, Jay explored the tightly integrated support for SharePoint development in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, and finished the session with an early look at some of the new Microsoft SharePoint 2010 support in Visual Studio 2012. He demonstrated the support built into Visual Studio for creating the most common customizations such as custom web parts, event receivers, and workflows, as well as the ALM capabilities in Visual Studio Ultimate and Team Foundation Server that can be applied when working with SharePoint.
