SAP OS/DB Migration to SQL Server–FAQ v5.3 April 2015

The FAQ document attached to this blog is the cumulative knowledge gained from hundreds of customers that have moved off UNIX/Oracle and DB2 to Windows and SQL Server in recent years.

In this document a large number of recommendations, tools, tips and common errors are documented.  It is recommended to read this document before performing an OS/DB migration to Windows + SQL Server.

Standard 2 socket commodity Intel based servers are now benchmarking about 90,000 SAPS meaning excellent performance at a reasonable cost is available to all customers

SQL Server 2014 is now Generally Available for almost all SAP applications

SQL Server 2014 Column Store support for SAP BW is now released providing for three broad functionalities:

a. Column Store support for E Fact table

b. Column Store support for F Fact table

c. Flat cube support for BW 7.40

Azure public cloud platform is now fully supported for Production for most SAP applications. Customers such as Zespri have moved their entire organization including a large complex SAP landscape to Azure
