How to Greatly Speed Up Migrations from Oracle/DB2 to SQL Server
Microsoft has developed some techniques to greatly speed up the process of converting from UNIX/Oracle/DB2 and AS/400 & Mainframe to Windows/SQL Server.
1. Why do customers Migrate to Windows/SQL Server?
The majority of customers who migrate legacy UNIX/Oracle/DB2 systems to Windows/Intel/SQL Server do so for cost reasons. Typically customers reduce their SAP platform costs to at least one quarter the cost of a UNIX platform (a saving three quarters).
Typically very large customers save even more when the costs of DR centers and other costs are factored in. Another benefit is a huge improvement in performance. Modern Intel systems deliver extremely good performance at a very low cost.
In recent years Intel based systems have incorporated the RAS features once only found on high cost proprietary UNIX hardware.
2. Are there Case Studies of Customers Saving money by migrating to SQL Server?
Yes, there are a large number of public case studies. In addition there are an even larger number of customers that have migrated to SQL Server. Microsoft cannot make a case study for every migration.

3. How to Migrate from UNIX/Oracle/DB2 to SQL Server?
SAP provide tools free of charge to all SAP customers to unload all the data and configuration from a SAP system and reload this into SQL Server. The tools are R3LOAD and JLOAD (for Java).
