Check your Windows power plan settings on your SharePoint machines

For a server workload on Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 your power plan should be set to High Performance. The default is balanced. This change is recommend for high CPU usage scenarios to ensure equal usage across all cores.

Service Pack 3 for SharePoint 2007 has been released

SP3 for SharePoint 2007 has been released. The October CU has been released as well. It’s a good idea to install the October CU(or later) and SP3 at the same time. Document Sets and Folders

I’ve recently run into a scenario where I‘m having some issues using folders inside of SharePoint 2010 Document Sets. I did some digging, and it appears that we don’t support folders inside of Document Sets, even though there are ways to create them.  I’ll update this post if anything changes.

Look at all of the pretty sites….

I’m sure any SharePoint administrator who supports a reasonably sized farm struggles with the idea of how to contain the massive amount of site collections in their farm. As adoption grows, the number of site collections and the amount of data keeps growing and growing. Managing all of this data turns into a real challenge. …

AV Scanner Exclusions KB Updated

I just wanted to point out that the KB that details file/folder exclusions for local AV scanners has been updated. One important addition is the exclusion of the Blobcache folder for SharePoint. Review the KB to make sure you’re still in compliance.

SharePoint Conference

Let’s say you create a site collection in your production/live farm. The site provisioning process creates an entry in the sites table in your…

This is a pretty easy thing to do. You just need to call the DocumentSet.Create() method, pass in the folder to create in, document set…

Slipstream SharePoint 2010 SP1 and Language Packs SP1 into RTM Builds

With the release of SharePoint 2010 SP1, it’s a good idea to include SP1 into your new builds. By slipstreaming the patches in your installation folder, this process gets much easier. This process is very similar to how things worked with WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007. I’m going to use the file names for SP2010…

Mount-SPContentDatabase Errors on 2nd and subsequent attempts of same database

A colleague recently ran into an issue when trying to test upgrade some content via the content DB approach. On the second attempt of attaching the same content db (after detaching it, deleting it from SQL, and copying in a new copy) they saw the following errors. I did some browsing around the web and…
