How fast will you go Digital?

Considering the green revolution, I bet pretty fast!

As individuals start having elevated awareness of the environment, as corporations start digitizing and reducing their carbon footprint, As we really start caring, we will walk towards that much awaited digital era faster and faster.

But apart from environment factor, there is something else that’s wooing us into the digital era.

Steve Rubel wrote a column “Five years from now, Media will be totally intangible” where he bets that by January 2014, almost all forms of tangible media will be either in sharp decline or completely extinct in the U.S. He is talking about not just print but all tangible forms of media -- newspapers, magazines, books, DVDs, boxed software and video games

I partially agree with him although I think Magazines and  Books still have a good life ahead.

But US market aside, let’s look at the market here, when I moved from Singapore to Malaysia, I bought a Lenovo X60 for SGD4,000 (almost RM 9,200) and now you could buy a NetBook or eee PC in Malaysia for cheaper than a PDA phone (less than RM2,000) !

Laptops that cheap and free internet in almost all the restaurants around Malaysia (including Starbucks, Coffee Bean, your local coffee shops and pubs) surely is gonna help us reach that Digital Age everyone has been talking about pretty fast!

Just to clarify – that’s a good thing :-)
