Stock Market Free Fall

What just happened?  The Dow just lost 416 points in the worst free-fall since 9/11.  Apparently, it began yesterday when the Shanghai stock market fell a whopping 9% in a massive sell-off.  This reverberated around the globe and affected all markets.
