Error 0xC0000034 during Service Pack 1 installations for Windows 7 (KB975484)

If you get this error you can try to fix this with 2 different options

Method 1: Restore your computer to an earlier point in time by using System Restore

or

Method 2: Delete the poqexec entry from the SetupExecute value (advanced users only)

Read more about how to do both of these at the official support KB article (975484)

Your computer may freeze or restart to a black screen that has a "0xc0000034" error message after you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or a Windows Vista service pack

Yes, we've read the Microsoft KB and those steps don't work. Restore Points are gone; referenced registry keys don't exist.

My recommendation? Use a Linux bootable or BART disc to recover important data, and reinstall Windows. (Or not.)

Since installing SP1 my windows ultimate already activated and verified for over a year is now being told it isn't genuine or blocked by servers. over the phone activation does not work, and neither do any of the UK call numbers.
