How to restore a hidden Internet Explorer Favorites folder

So this is for William who emailed me with this question.  He had made an IE Favorite folder hidden and couldn’t find a way to get it back.

As this folder is just like any other folder it is quite simple to fix, but the key is to know where your favorites are stored.

1. First go to Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where your favourites are.  This is typically c:\users\<user name>\favorites Internet Explorer Favorites Folder
2. Now select the Organize menu and choose ‘Folder and search options’ Folder and search options
3. Click the view tab, and make sure you select ‘show hidden files, folders’  and press Apply Show Hidden files
4. Restart Internet Explorer and your hidden folder should now appear.

Thanks to Ian who supplied me the answer

And while he's there right-click the folder and choose Properties. Untick Hidden (on the General tab) and when prompted choose "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" and click OK to stop it being hidden.

Then re-turn off "Show Hidden Files".

Devastated! It didn't work. Internet favorites just keeps telling me there is already a folder of that name when I try to create a new one!! Any other suggestions?
