Visual Studio Toolbox: Visual Studio Emulator for Android

In this episode, I am joined by Nick Landry for a whirlwind tour of the Visual Studio Emulator for Android. This emulator is free, fast and powerful. It supports a variety of Android versions and screen sizes, as well as the full range of sensors, including accelerometer, screen orientation, SD card, battery, multi-touch, GPS, camera, audio and keyboard. If you are building Android apps, you want to download and use this!

    Hello,

I'm developing against GenyMotion because I can run ARM translation there to install Google Apps Services related things on the VM. Can this emulator support installing it, or does it have a x86 version of Google Apps Services running there already?

    Thanks.

cheong00, see this note from the docs:

"If your app takes advantage of the Google Play Services layer then it will not work out of the box in our emulator. That is because when building our Android images we do not include the GMS packages (which require additional licensing that Google apparently is not offering to emulator providers). It is interesting to note how other emulators have addressed this problem, eg. Xamarin and Genymotion. These methods may work in our emulator."
