Windows Speech Recognition and User Access Control

Yeah, yeah... Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) is great and all, but what about those pesky security dialogs that pop up when I click on something with a picture of a shield on the? I can't control them? Or can I? ...

Actually, you can. Sort of. But you have to change how User Access Control (UAC) is configured. Here's how you can do that...

The ironic thing is that you have to do this via the keyboard.

Here’s how you can do it though, or have someone else do it for you:

1. Press WinKey + R

2. Type secpol.msc

3. Hit Enter

4. Accept any UAC prompts

5. Go to Local Policies, then Security Options

6. Go all the way to the bottom

7. Double click User Account Control: Switch to the Secure Desktop when prompting for elevation

8. Select Disabled

9. Click OK

10. Close all dialogs

That’s it. From now on when those User Access Control security dialogs come up, you’ll be able to use Speech Recognition to control them.
