Another Visual Studio download that appeared on Microsoft Downloads this month is the Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Beta.
Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Beta, or VSTO 2005 SE Beta for short) is a free add-on to Visual Studio 2005 that empowers developers to build applications targeting the 2007 Office system. Developers can now harness the benefits of the 2007 Office system platform and create Office-based solutions using the professional development environment of Visual Studio 2005.
Among other things, this release includes support for developing application-level add-ins in managed code, and support for key Office 2007 features (including the ribbon and custom task panes). You can use this release to ensure the applications you built for Office 2003 will continue to run with the 2007 Office system. This release now runs in Visual Studio 2005 Professional (stand-alone), in addition to those versions already supported, including all of the MSDN subscriptions and Visual Studio Team System.
