I haven’t done my usual New Team System Stuff post since August. Recently, I’ve stumbled on something called a blog carnival. After learning more about them, I want to do the same for Team System – perhaps on TeamSystemRocks.com?
What’s a blog carnival? Here’s a brief description from BlogCarnival.com:
We love the idea of blog carnivals where someone takes the time to find really good blog posts on a given topic, and then puts all those posts together in a blog post called a “carnival”.
To understand what a blog carnival is, consider some examples. Here is the first edition of Carnival of the Vanities (one of the earliest blog carnivals). Carnivals can be very descriptive like this one, or very concise, like this one. Find the style the fits your topic and time schedule.
Working with several Agile-related Yahoo! groups, John Brothers initiated a “Carnival of the Agilists”. As he described it in a post to the AgileProjectManagement, ScrumDevelopment and AgileManagement groups:
One person would be the host, and agile-focused bloggers would send him or her links to good, interesting blog posts that they had written during the week. That person would then organize and summarize the posts and create a ‘meta post’ at the end of the 7 day period with all of the links in one place. Essentially, it’s like a Zine, for those of you old-school enough to remember those. The organizer typically rotates from week to week. The bloggers who participate would put a link on their blogs to the carnival post, so all the readers out there could find it.
You can learn more about the Carnival of the Agilists on BlogCarnival.com, which naturally lists other blog carnivals:
The Carnival of the Agilists is a weekly roundup of interesting blog posts and articles about agile software development, including but not limited to Extreme Programming, Scrum, Crystal and other agile methodologies, project management, customer management, teamwork, change management and all the other factors that are involved in creating successful agile software, solutions and environments. Deadline to submit articles/links is Thursday at Noon EST. The CotA is published on Thursday afternoons.
