Installing Team Build

Installing Team Foundation Server installs several Web services that support Team Build. These services control build machines hosting Team Build and managing builds. However, Team Foundation Server setup does not install Team Build itself. This is by design. While you may choose to install Team Build on the same computer as Team Foundation Server for evaluation, we anticipate that a more common scenrario is to install Team Build on one or more dedicated build machines.

I’m updating the Installation Guide to include information about installing Team Build, but the simple direction is to simply run \bb\setup.exe on the Team Foundation Server installation disc. When prompted for a service account, you must use the same account used for the Team Foundation Server services account.

Edit - must use TFS service account for Team Build service account in Beta 2.

I have tried installing it on a VPC that hass all of the Team Systems tiers and I get an error (not specified) during the installation. Is there a specific spot during the whole installation when Team Build needs to be installed so that it doesn’t fail? The installation log does not provide any specifics about the error.

    Thanks in advance!

Please be sure to note when installing Team Build on a node without Visual Studio, that you will need to copy the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Enterprise.AspNetHelper.dll from %Program Files%Visual Studio 2005 Test ExecutionLoadTest folder to the %Program Files%Microsoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEPrivateAssemblies folder, as noted at

  3. This is correct but has some issues you need to be aware of before you start your install. If you are running W2K3 with SP1 like me you get a nasty exception during install if you not follow the steps below.

    Enable the Windows firewall service

Go to control panel and make sure the firewall itself is still turned off.

When you fix this manually, then hit the setup.exe and not before otherwise your server won’t install. I ended up reinstalling because after the failure and fixing this I got all kinds of other errors.
