At TechEd Europe today, Microsoft officially announced (and mentioned here last week) the Express editions of Visual Studio and the MSDN Product Feedback Center ("Ladybug").

The Express products offer lightweight, easy-to-use and easy-to-learn products that enable the nonprofessional to quickly build exciting, dynamic websites and Windows® applications. Used together or separately, the Express products help a large class of entry-level developers learn and evaluate development on the Windows platform.

The Microsoft Express product lines for SQL Server and Visual Studio consist of the following:

· SQL Server Express Edition, a free, easy-to-use version of SQL Server 2005 designed for building simple data-driven applications

· Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition, a lightweight tool for building dynamic websites and web services

· Visual Basic® 2005 Express Edition, a streamlined programming tool that helps beginning programmers learn how to build exciting Windows applications

· Visual C#® 2005 Express Edition, Visual C++® 2005 Express Edition and Visual J#® 2005 Express Edition, three programming tools for students and enthusiasts

As for the MSDN Product Feedback Center:

As a part of the community efforts, Microsoft introduced the MSDN Product Feedback Center, a public suggestion and bug database for the Visual Studio 2005 beta, where developers can track suggestions and product issues online, get e-mail notification of fixes, and interact with Microsoft product teams during product development. Leveraging the developer community, the site helps developers stay productive by avoiding known problems, sharing workarounds and voting on existing feedback, in addition to filing new reports.

No. Please file all security-related issues at https://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/alertus.aspx . If you file a security issue on the MSDN Product Feedback Center, it may take more time to be routed to the appropriate product team. Exposing a security issue on this site also creates the risk of hackers learning about the issue and taking advantage of it.
