WSE 3.0 talk at the INDA Cork Usergroup Meeting

WSE 3.0 graphic Last night, I spoke about service-oriented development using Web Services and WSE 3.0 at the INDA Cork usergroup meeting.  I always enjoy coming down to Cork for these presentations, and INDA Cork's Joe Gill wrote some kind words and posted some photos from the presentations.

I decided to focus on the existing technologies that are available in Visual Studio 2005, and available for free download as the Web Service Enhancements (WSE) 3.0.

My agenda, which was perhaps ambitious for an hour-long presentation, started with an introduction to web services, and worked its way up to adding security to an ASP.NET (.asmx) web service using WSE 3.0.  My Powerpoint slide deck is posted here.

WSE 3.0 is very impressive.  It's available today, it will fully interoperate (and/or coexist) with the up-and-coming Windows Communications Framework (a.k.a. Indigo), and even has a similar programming model.  So I'd highly recommended it if you want to start building web services today.

Big heap o' download links to get started with WSE 3.0:

1. Get Visual Studio 2005 (even the Web Developer Express Edition)

2. Get WSE 3.0 and install it into Visual Studio 2005

3. Learn about WSE 3.0 by going through the Messaging and Security Hands-On Labs on the right side of this page
