Aceh Aid at IDEP

I blogged about the Aceh Aid Bucket Brigade and some of their technology needs. Since then, I’ve been in touch with some people who are working on this. There might still be some pieces to add to this, so, if you’re interested, don’t hesitate to contact me via the contact link on my blog homepage.

If you’re wondering whether or not this outfit is legit, a perfectly reasonable question, the lead organization is the Yayasan IDEP Foundation in Bali. Here’s an independent news article that discusses the organization’s aims and goals. It also points out that IDEP works with USAID.

I point this out because “Aceh Aid Bucket Brigade” carries a rather ragtag, loosely organized, outfit, and that’s not the case. This is an organization that’s been on the ground in Indonesia for quite some time, has existing disaster relief infrastructure, and has a great deal of practical knowledge about culture and customs in the area.

It seems the group also recognizes this same connotation with “Ace Aid Bucket Brigade,” because they’re now referring to themselves as “Aceh Aid at IDEP.”

If you’re in a position to assist with some of their technology needs, please don’t allow any concerns about the legitimacy of the organization or its effort hold you back.
