In the category of, "things you wondered but never knew who to ask"...The Old New Thing blog explains were the common (and often comical to some presenters) MS sample company and site names come from, Contoso and Fabrikam.

Heck....I just thought it was some conspiracy thought up in Redmond by a small group over drinks ;) Never even occurred to me to type this in a URLs?!
