Free Training: Visual Studio 2008 Training Kit

Microsoft recently released a freely downloadable training kit, with presentations, hands-on labs, and demonstrations, of pretty much every feature in Visual Studio 2008!  These are the types of resources that I use myself to get up to speed on some of the new technologies, and I wanted to make sure that you knew about them as well.

It covers:

  • LINQ,
  • C# 3.0
  • Visual Basic (.NET) 9.0
  • Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  • Windows Workflow Foundation (WF)
  • Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
  • Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO), this is where the SharePoint Development stuff is!
  • CardSpace
  • SilverLight
  • Mobile
  • Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)

The best part, I find, is that it is broken up in such a way that you can focus on one part/new feature at a time.  It’s well worth the cost (free), unless you include the download cost. Smile

One of the system requirements listed for this is Vista.  Will this work with XP?  Thanks

  3. Madhu says:

I also have the same question. Will this work with XP? If not, is there any other download for XP?

Justin, could you get it working on XP?

  4. JasonP says:

Some of the stuff works on Xp, like slides and tutorials/labs. The installer is actually a zip file so it doesn’t really install anything. However if you do build the source it might fail.
