Free Training: Plan, Design, Deploy SharePoint (MOSS) 2007 - Virtual Labcast

On Monday, Nov. 19th starting @ 8:30 CST, Microsoft is offering a FREE Virtual Labcast (I.e., Proctored Virtual Lab).  This is a hands-on lab, where you will be able to work through the exercises via a hosted Virtual Lab, provided by Microsoft.  This is a great opportunity for SharePoint Administrators, or those who want to learn more about SharePoint Administration.

Join this Full Day  virtual training to learn the new and exciting features of  Microsoft®  Office SharePoint Server 2007.  In this hands-on session, we will  show you how to prepare for an  Office SharePoint Server 2007 Implementation going through the planning and designing for non-functional requirements.  You will see an overview of Implementing Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Search and Indexing.  This virtual training event will also provide a hands-on virtual lab environment where you can perform the tasks yourself with step-by-step guidance from Microsoft professionals, giving you experience-based knowledge of Office SharePoint Server 2007

After completing the virtual lab, you will be able to:

  • Prepare and plan for implementing Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 solutions.
  • Describe typical non-functional requirements for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007-based solutions and how to consider these requirements at the design stage.
  • Describe the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 deployment architecture.
  • Explain the search and indexing features of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and explain which features are provided by Windows SharePoint Services and which are provided by Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
  • Describe the process of defining content to be indexed, indexing that content, and performing searches.
  • Describe the options available for centralized and decentralized site provisioning and the templates that you can use to create Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 sites.

This course is for IT Professionals who are experienced with Windows® operating system and Office technologies looking to deploy Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

Module 1: 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Deploying Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

This module provides high-level information about deployment environments and its prerequisites, and then focuses on the tasks and activities involved in installing and configuring Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. The module concludes with an overview and examples of Shared Service Providers. We will discuss Office SharePoint Server 2007 Deployment Architecture, Installing Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Managing Shared Services Providers

After completing this event, students will be able to:

  • Describe the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 deployment architecture.
  • Install and configure Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
  • Describe and manage Shared Service Providers.

Module 2: 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM

Administering Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

This module will provides details and guidance about general administrative tasks for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. We will show you how to Create  Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Sites and Manage the Office SharePoint Server 2007 features.

After completing this event, students will be able to:

  • Describe the options available for centralized and decentralized site provisioning and the templates that you can use to create Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 sites.
  • Describe the features available in Office SharePoint Server 2007, their functions, and how to manage them.

Module 3:   2:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Implementing Search and Indexing

This module focuses on the concepts, requirements, and processes for implementing search and indexing.

We will review Implementing Office SharePoint Server 2007 Search and Indexing.

After completing this event, students will be able to:

  • Explain the search and indexing features of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and explain which features are provided by Windows SharePoint Services and which are provided by Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
  • Describe the process of defining content to be indexed, indexing that content, and performing searches.

Prerequisites:

To get the most from this course, you will need:

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows client and server operating systems.
  • Experience installing, configuring and supporting Microsoft Office System technologies.
  • Install the ActiveX control The Microsoft Virtual Machine Remote Control (VMRC) ActiveX control is required to start the virtual lab. Please install it prior to attending the webcast.
  • Review system requirements These system settings are required to run the labs successfully.
