The source code for the shipping ASP.NET 2.0 providers has been released
That's right. Scott Guthrie just blogged it here. You get to see exactly how the product team wrote the providers that ship with ASP.NET 2.0. So if you want to build your own providers to plug in, much of the work is done for you. In many scenarios, you just have to tweak the existing code!
