FusionNet – The power of Smart Clients, Visual Studio 2005, and SQL Server 2005

Props to David Moye and the CCIS folks who built an amazing application. This application allows a range of users from military commanders down to the unit level and even coalition partners to see critical battlefield data. Visual Studio 2005 allowed the CCIS team to build a richer user interface while improving developer productivity. The migration from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 was “seamless” according to David Moye from CCIS. It’s also a very scalable application, which is being deployed to the “first tactical mile”.

Also, this application provides us with a great reminder of the value of Smart Client technology, which is in part why this application works well in tactical networks, and increases the accuracy of the data.
