HD DVD Launches in Japan

In case you hadn't seen the news, Toshiba launched their first HD DVD players in Japan today! Only a few weeks now until I get my player from amazon.com... the video quality on these things is amazing, and the interactivity rocks 🙂

The ironic thing about the Japanese launch is that one of the titles bundled with the player -- Resident Evil -- is a Sony movie. In case you've been living under a rock, Sony is backing a different high-definition format...

In a similar vein, Titanic is "mostly" a 20th Century Fox film, but Paramount pitched in about 1/3 of the budget and has the US distribution rights. Paramount supports HD DVD, but at this point in time Fox does not. I hope Titanic makes its way to HD DVD soon, coz I love that movie (and I'm not ashamed to say it 🙂 ).
