An introduction

I am a 'new hire' at Microsoft UK.  I started on the 26th March 2007 as a consultant in MCS (Microsoft Consulting Services).  My name is Simon Middlemiss and this is my blog.

It is my hope that I can share some of what I learn as I fulfill my role a .NET developer specializing in C#, ASP.NET and WPF and also from working with the great people in this department.

I graduated from the University of Reading with a degree in Computational Physics and since then I have worked on projects in the broadcast, insurance and music retail industries. I was previously employed as technical lead for HMV’s Digital Download project where we delivered 2 enterprise class e-commerce solutions; a web-based digital music store at www.hmvdigital.com as well as an MCE Spotlight application

In August 2004 I founded my own company ‘SiSoft’ to develop a computational solution to the problem of managing racing for the Skandia Cowes Week yachting regatta.  Following feedback from a successful trial during the 2005 regatta the user interface was completely overhauled using the Windows Presentation Framework. This attracted the attention of Microsoft who produced a video and case study detailing its use, both of which were featured as part of the Windows Vista developer launch.  The application was featured as Tim Sneath's #7 Great WPF Application where he explains that the system was only the second WPF application put into a live production environment.

I have blogged heavily on that subject and other WPF matters on my previous blog at https://psiman.wordpress.com and I intend to republish some of that content here.
