The Program Manager in Outlook (Melissa) and one of our Program Managers here in Project (Jon) collaborated on a post explaining the integration between Project Server and Outlook in this release. These posts go into nice detail about how you can manage your tasks directly from Outlook. This is an especially important feature for team members, whom most likely don't have access to Project Professional. The post is broken down into 2 parts:
Hope this will help you understand the integration between the 2 applications.
Hi Melissa,
I see periodic requests in the Project newsgroups for details on how to get Project Standard to communicate with Outlook. Early versions had a built in facility, but Project 2003 requires special fiddling to get some sort of communication. What are the options for Project Standard 2007 to integrate with Outlook 2007? If this facility won’t be available, why?

As above, I am a single user of both Outlook 2007 and Project 2007. I constantly update tasks in Outlook that I would like to "single click" and have them appear in a Project 2007 schedule so that I can organise with other projects. Project server is out of the question for me, as well as retyping (too many mistakes!).
Is there a solution to this?

I have installed the Project Server 2007 add-in for Outlookseveral times I am using Outlook 2003 english version (Not US). I assume Project server is also a english but not sure how to check. The initial message that I receive from Outlook after the add-in is successfully installed is:
"The language of the Project Add-in for Outlook must match the language of Outlook. Uninstall the add-in and reinstall a matching language version."
Subsequent installations do not have this message but no components are added to Outlook, nor can I add them manually. What should I do?

Hi,
We have 3 workstations that are crashing with the outlook plugin for project server 2007.
Is there a new version coming out soon or is there the intention of releasing this as a source project?
Thanks.
Hi,
I am using project server 2007 and I have successfully installed outlook plug in for project server. However when I try to connect to my PWA site it is giving this error message–
"The server is contacted successfully but the login attempt failed!"
Although the login information is correctly entered. Let me know do I need to do some other setting to work it successfully?
You can email at krunald@mandmsoft.com
Thanks
Is there any Outlook plugin for PS that allows the addition of new tasks to project server from Outlook? It would make life alot easier for users without Project Professional
I to have the problem that when i try to login it says:
"The server is contacted successfully but the login attempt failed!"
I can log in the pwa with no problem. Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

I’ve been having trouble for a while now trying to consistently get Outlook tasks to update via the timesheet hours. When I try to update the Project Web Access from the task I get the following error: "Updates were not accepted by the server (Exception 999)" Additionally, it many times hangs Outlook 2003 and I have to restart outlook. I’ve tried this on a completely fresh, updated install of Outlook 2003 as well as an updated, fresh install of Outlook 2007 with no success. It definitly has something to do with the server but I do not know what. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Hi all,
I am using Project Server 2007 and I have successfully installed Outlook plug in for project server. When I try to connect to my site it is giving this error message:
"The server was enabled to process the last request"
Let me know do I need to do some other setting to work it successfully?

I have struggled with this issue for a while now. It would seem that it may have something to do with changing the date format AFTER tasks have been assigned. I went in over PWA and completed all my tasks and I could then sync with outlook reporting no tasks. I sent back one of my own tasks that I had completed (I was also PM for the project) and this time I could sync and my one task would appear. Hope this is of some use.
I am using PS07 / and outlook07..trying to sync up both !!
using the personal settings=>outlook Sync, download and run..nothing happens
In outlook tools=>options=>PWA tab is not visable
So I check the outlook Trust center and see that the add on is disabled.. I enable it and press ok
..still nothing happens
I am having the same problem as Alex Grin – when i complete the task process it will not synch up but gives an error message of "unable to process last request". I’ve uninstalled, repaired, done everything I can think of. Is there an update to this add on? or something I can do? I’m trying to release this to my organization and this will be a key feature.

I have Project 2003 with Outlook 2007. IS there a plugin available for me to export my Project tasks to Outlook and thereby receive reminders when they are due please?
I am experiencing the same issue as Alex and Alison; however, it apears to be just me. One of my co-workers can import the exact same tasks without any issues. Any ideas?

My company wants to implement Project Server for project managers and teams to use. I am doing the initial research to see if PS has our company’s requirements.
Concerning the Outlook integration, if the owner of a task completes the task, can we configure Outlook to send notification emails to our PM that TaskX is complete? Also, can we configure Outlook to send notification emails to the owner of TaskX that it is due soon?
Thanks. Please email me at tph2hx@gmail.com

I too cannot get Outlook 2007 to connect to Project Server 2007. Outlook complains that PWA URL is invalid, even though the exact same URL works fine in IE7.
I found it, after cracking my head in this for a week.
Go into IIS > Select the PWA site > Properties > Directory Security > Authentication and access control > Edit > Place a check next to ‘Enable anonymous access’. Leave the default Username and Password (I am not sure where it got the pre-populated info.) > OK
Now the Outlook add-in correctly contacts the Project 2007 Server!
Unfortunately, Windows Authentication now fails, as I am connecting from a machine outside of my domain.
Does anyone know how to set the Outlook add-in to PROMPT me for the Windows Username and Password, instead of assuming that I want to use the Windows account on my local machine?
Windows Server 2003 > IIS > Select the PWA site > Security > Enable Anonynous Access
Unfortunately, Login still fails, and says that my Credentials are incorrect.
I am using Windows Authentication, and same credentials work fine in IE’s PWA. Please help!
Aaron, have you tried launching Outlook via RunAs?
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/7b710f79-d28a-4297-b5fc-0c1868d236fc1033.mspx?mfr=true
OK I feel real stupid. After manipulating IIS and Project Server settings and Outlook sync settings just so I can run through and experience all the errors posted in this link. I finally got OL add-in sync working. Real simple. Check in the project in PWA. Then that will allow the users to receive their tasks. A better error message on the Microsoft side would have been helpful.
the solution it’s add the url to Intranet zone in the Internet Explorer. That’s works
I have the same issue as /pd. I don’t see the PWA tab in Tools>Options and now I don’t have the toolbar with the buttons. Selecting the options from Tools>Project Web Access> results in nothing. Even selecting the Help option results in nothing. I have uninstalled, installed, repaired many times. Any suggestions?
I’m new to Project Server. Have just installed a new server and the software. Now testing it. I have a couple of questions about tasks thate are sent though to Outlook.
When the outlook task is created the key date seems to be the Finish date. We would like tasks to be created in Outlook such that the key date is the start date not finsh… that is the we want outlook to tell them when to start not whne to finish. Also the project manager wants to be able to set a reminder on teh Outlook task. The only way I see to do that is set it in Outlook not on thee server.
Can anyone advise how to accomplish those two things?
I am currently trying to implement Project Server 2007 and I am experiencing the same issues that Mike posted on Jan 30 2007. After setting up the Outlook Synch, whenever I open Outlook 2003, I get the following ‘Project Web Access Outlook Add-In Fatal Installation Error’ message:
"The language of the Project Add-In for Outlook must match the language of Outlook. Uninstall the add-in and reinstall a matching language version"
We have successfully sychronised all the Outlook 2007 users without issue. However, we are using Outlook 2003 (English version) for the majority of our users. What’s the fix for this one?
Thanks
Hello…
I have had, and still have Problems with Outlook Add-In.
I have had the languageproblem and solved it:
Start > All Programms > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office 2007 language settings
changeing the language here solved the problem.
And the problem that the Add-In is not shown in outlook can be fixed by:
Extras > Macros > security > Add-In and than with that | COM-Add-Ins | (Button>) "Go to …"
Now you have to find the file "MPSINTEGRATION12.DLL"
(in my case: c:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12)
So all s fine…? – NO!
I still get the error that OutlookAddIn can´t connect to server (Maybe because i use https and a cert???)
ore if i try the IE-Settings with anonymous access i get "The server is contacted successfully but the login attempt failed!"
Also i don´t want to use the anonymous access!
If you connect to your site with outlook using the WEB-Tool (Toolbar>WEB) connection will worke and you will get your tasks, but they will not get send back to the server – My Tasks still show the tasks i set to 100% in Outlook – and the PM do not get a actualisation and no divice to publicate the Project again.
Do you know if my troubls with the add-in decide on:
Active Directory and winauth…
or
https
or
are they still solved when i install the new infrastructur Updates (haven´t done yet)
I have done all possibilites, Infrastructure updates as well, but still doesn’t work, I am able to sync task with domain authonticated computer but some time it does and some time doesn’t.
I’m just wondering – its October 2008, and why is it we don’t have an automated way to sync Microsoft Project and Sharepoint and Outlook BEHIND THE SCENES – this notion of client software is truly f’in absurd.
Microsoft you really let me down i tell ya. – The last mile, and you drop in some BS like this. – What about users that never hop on Outlook?
– What about if I want to have a mobile workforce that uses mobile phones to access their exchange email? – yet i want projects to update and sync with tasks – across the board.
– What if i want to have mac users?
its a weak ending to have all these great Microsoft Office Suite things and then to fall short right there at the last mile.
Get your sh*t together microsoft – PLEASE.
I have Project Server 2007 in English, but many clients of Outlook 2007 in Spanish.
Where can i download the Outlook add-in in spanish in order to work corectly??
Hi I am running project server 2007 and I have all support packs and releases
installed. I have about 140 users on different domains all using the same
version of outlook and have the same user outlook settings. I have 3 users
that cannot connect to the project server by using the outlook integration.
They can log-in to project web access and install the integrator just fine,
but when they try to download their tasks in outlook they get an error that
that cannot connect. I checked to make sure that they didn’t spell the
server address wrong, and it isn’t a domain issue because the users are all
on different domains. When they test the server connectionit it says project
server URL seems to be invalid. Please check the spelling of the Project
Server URL, but its spelled correctly.
Is there something that may be in their outlook settings that can cause
this? How can we fix it? All the users are running outlook 2007.
Thank you for your help,
Leilani831
I have the same problem as Leilani831. The address is spelled correctly, but it doesn´t connect.
Just one station using http port can connect, and the others not.
Any clue?
Thanks
I also have the same problem. When I click on import new assignment tab I get the following error message:
Unable to contact project server at "our pwa URL"
Once again tried and rewrite the URL in outlook through tools -> options -> PWA -> Advanced Options
-> Enter Login Information -> here I enter our valid URL which we use to connect to Project Server through internet explorer and then click on test connection and get the error message "The server URL seems to be invalid. Please check the spelling of the Project Server URL."
I am sure that our URL is correct there is no spelling mistake but I can not success to connect.
Please send me a response if anyone knows about this issue!
Thanks in advance
Gul
The outlook sync seems to still be sending confirmation messages even though in the Options settings I have unchecked both import and update notification messages? This has been an issue for most users that I have configured the PWA Outlook Add-In for. Any suggestions?
I use the following products to Sync Microsoft Project with Outlook:

Both products sync with Microsoft Project, Outlook Tasks and Outlook Calendar.

I have a number of project team members that are experiencing several different problems with the PWA 2007 Outlook add-in. We are using Office 2007. My question is where can I go to research these problems and possible solutions? I see a number of posts here that reflect some of the problems reported to me, however I do not see any responses to the comments posted. Are these posts misdirected?
Much better Software is
http://www.allocatus.com
it links Project with Outlook or Notes
We have installed PWA outlook plug in, but can not get it to work reliably, error on import and sometime serious error causing outlook to crash.
office 2007 sp3 and Project 2007 SP1.
The import of tasks from PWA into Outlook work except when a task is deleted. New tasks and updates are synchronized but if a task is deleted in PWA, it does not automatically delete in Outlook. Any suggestions?
I’m receiving an error when the Import Project Assignments loads on Outlook. I get all the way through seeing which assignments are being imported and then I receive:
An unexpected error occurred.
(paraphrase- you may want to reinstall)
I have made sure the add-in is listed in the trust center. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as repairing to no avail. Do you know what may be the cause?
Hi,
After installing the composant, there is no way to get the "Project Web Access" Toolbar in Outlook. It’s as if I never had install the composant.
I tryed to uninstall and reinstall but the problem still remain.
PS : I ensure to close Outlook during PsOlkAddin.exe.
I have a Outlook 2007 in portugues and a work project server 2007 in english.
When I go to integrate both (installing the add-in), to start Outllok 2007 the following message.
"The language of the Project Add-In for Outlook must match the language of Outlook. Uninstall the add-in and reinstall a matching language version"
I believe that I install the add-in in Portuguese for the integration work, someone has to add in Portuguese.

Three questions I am using Project 2007 Professional
Can I get Project to sync with calendar and taskes without buying Project server using import/export options or Exploiting VBA to sync tasks
I remember that Project 98 had lots of workgroup options to email lists of tasks where has all that functionality gone?
Hi,
Have you seen the situation where Outlook "hangs" when manually or automatically “Importing New Assignments?” The “Project Sever Communication” dialog comes up but it never gets to “Connecting with Project Server”. This happens randomly, after it’s been working fine, and with many different users. The only recovery is to kill Outlook! 🙁
Thanks! – Steve
I have a client trying to integrate PS2007 SP2 with Outlook 2010 and getting an error saying Outlook cannot be found. Is there any information on the way this should work or if it can work?
Thanks,
