Testing the Testing Strategy
Having healthy application lifecycle management (ALM) processes is crucial to producing robust software. ALM guidance is one of the primary services the Premier Development consulting team delivers and our ALM consultants are highly in demand! Our team is growing and this past summer we were lucky to have Geoff Gray join our team. Geoff has been with Microsoft for over 20 years in various roles, most recently as a Performance Testing Consultant before joining our team in June. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Geoff in the labs many times and can attest to his major chops when it comes to putting an application through its paces in the performance lab!
Testing is a crucial phase of software development and Geoff has a fabulous blog on testing strategy that is full of the experience he has gleaned working with customers in the Microsoft ITSM Testing Labs for the past several years. Most recently, Geoff has been working on a series he calls “All About Load Test Planning” that walks the reader through the process of planning and executing a successful load test. Here’s a quote that caught my eye from his introduction to the series:
“My old team has a very simple slogan: “We test WITH you, not FOR you.” That phrase sums up one of the most important reasons the engagements are so successful. It takes a team of skilled people to effectively design and execute performance load tests. I will also tell you that the people I have the privilege of working with all have several years of experience in their respective fields, which is also a key factor in success.”
Having the right people in the room is one of the most crucial aspects of performance testing, and as I’m sure anyone who’s been in the lab with Geoff can attest to, he’s been the key to the success of many a lab. Check out Geoff’s blog series at the following link:
