Photo Metadata APIs

Photo Metadata APIs

A few months ago, we blogged about how metadata was handled by the Windows Vista Photo Gallery. Since then, a number of technical articles have been posted on MSDN that are related to the concepts we discussed in that blog post. We thought that it would be helpful to add links to those articles here:

Its very impressive, especially if compared with the existing possibilities under XP and bevore.

Not yet perfect, however. Who in his right mind made the decision that the EXIF properties are user-editable in the Vista Explorer??? Take a lock at EXIF 2.2, and add this to the list for Vistas SP1, please…

    😉

What programs under Vista use this API and how consistent is this with other MS products.

I use the Microsoft Digital Image Suite and love the way it handles tags. I was a bit disapointed that Vista’s photo gallery did not handle the tags in a compatible way.

What’s worse, some program in Vista, probably Media Player, went through all my pictures and destroyed the meta data (removed all the tags and made them "flat" keywords in Digital Image Suite).

As I said before, we have to survive this initial period of vista!
